RECESS

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The middle part of thee day,
What is a summary?
 I've noticed a struggle to write about what you read. We will do it together!!
 Let's look at some samples!
 The Hobbit:
The dwarves, along with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, continue their quest to reclaim Erebor, their homeland, from Smaug. Bilbo Baggins is in possession of a mysterious and magical ring.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1170358/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Book Summary:
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.
Non-Ficition (meaning the book is about information and facts) summaries are more precise.
Let's do some together!
 Summary Test
ART!
 Students will look at art as a voice and vehicle for change, with respect to MLKjr day.  Examples of posters that speak about an issue.  Watch a video on art for change project.  Then students will pick their own issue they want to speak about and design their own poster.  They can use a template of a poster from online or create their own.  When this is complete, they will post on our class collaborative blog and comment on each others.
Art as a voice, protest posters!
"The Children's March" tells the story of how the young people of Birmingham, Alabama, braved fire hoses and police dogs in 1963 and brought segregation to its knees. Their heroism complements discussions about the ability of today's young people to be catalysts for positive social change.
