9:15AM BLOCK 1 MATH
http://sbac.portal.airast.org/practice-test/
We will continue prep for the SBAC and also working on common core material, with a continued emphasis on solving multi-step problems (critical thinking).
"The Smarter Balanced Practice and Training Tests are available to schools and districts for practice and training purposes, professional development activities, and for discussions with parents, policymakers, and other interested stakeholders."
Sample problem:
Nicky has 4 packs of pencils. Each pack contains 15 pencils. In each pack, 5 pencils are blue and the rest green.
Create a bar graph to show how many of each color pencil Nicky has.
Click the graph to show where the top of the bar should go.

BLOCK 2 Computer LAB
Part 1 (20 minutes)
Students will practice leveled typing skills in the computer lab. This prepares them for moving up a grade and also addressing disabilities that inhibit writing performance (handwriting) to increase writing production.
During each stage, a fun character guides typists throughout the stage and reward students with a song-and-dance upon completion.
Spelling City Vocab/spell words of the week:
Part 2 (30 minutes)
Students will learn new vocabulary words through games and practice. This is going with our end of year writing theme: personal narratives.
1. personal
2. narrative
3. hook
4. literary device
5. sensory
6. convey
7. audience
8. sequence
9. transition

BLOCK 3 Personal Narratives "How to hook your reader"
This presentation will introduce 6 different types of "hooks" or leads into a story. This can be used with personal narratives as well as research papers. There are also slides at the end that the kids will have to read and decide which "hook" the writer has chosen to use.
Later date....
